Golf is a sport: Reason #1 – ‘Gators

October 9, 2009 / Posted in Uncategorized

We’re kicking off a new feature here at NiceBallz that will strive to make the case around why golf is a sport.

Of course golf supporters (which we count ourselves amongst) will point to the news out today that golf will be part of the Olympics in 2016 as proof positive.

While that certainly helps make the case, it won’t deter golf’s biggest detractors from continuing their siege against the greatest game ever invented.

In our recurring series we’ll highlight other reasons why golf is not only a sport, but arguably the greatest, and most challenging sport.

Reason #1 – Alligators

A 75 year old golfer lost part of his arm while trying to retrieve a golf ball from a pond during a round in South Carolina.

Has Peyton Manning ever had to avoid a 10 foot alligator while wandering to the sidelines?  No.  Did Michael Jordan have to ‘rassle any ‘gators while driving to the hoop?  No.

But hook one ball into a water hazard on a golf course, and you’re suddenly known as “Lefty” in your foursome.

It’s not as though the unfortunate victim mentioned above is alone. After all who can forget the tragic case of Chubbs, from Happy Gilmore.

Look for more reasons why golf is a sport in the future - but for now friends if you lose a ball in a hazard, just take your drop mmm’kay?

PS - Some other helpful tips on how you can avoid losing a limb or your life while playing the world’s most dangerous game can be found here at Zipgolfer.
