We don’t need another blog post about Tiger Woods house
Rant alert. I know NiceBallz is a relative newcomer to the golf blogging scene. We’re the Johnny Come Lately, new kid on the block. Invariably FNG’s like us show up and think they’re going to tell the world how to do things. Don’t you hate that? If so, you’re not going...
Our year in golf: 2009 (Part 1?)
Sure it’s only November, but it’s cold, windy and here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, it is soggy rainy wet. Sure, golf season isn’t over (did you say, over?) but it is on the decline and we’re starting to feel reflective. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed starting NiceBallz and hope you’ve enjoyed reading/watching/listening to...
Secrets from the underbelly of golf doping
In the wake of the Doug Barron doping scandal we set out to probe every orifice of the issue of drugs in golf. In doing so we came across an individual claiming to be ‘Dealer X’ the individual responsible for providing Doug Barron with the substance that got him into...
Confidence can be dangerous
Disclaimer: This is not really a golf related post. So I’m watching the Monday Night Football Game when I get a text from a good friend (who happens to be a golf pro- hey! this is a golf post, sort of) saying: “I think I just saw Gruden’s camel toe.”...
How to be your favorite golfer for Halloween
You’re a fan. A big fan. Such a big fan that you want to be your favorite golfer for Halloween. But how? Don’t just walk around carrying your putter all night asking people to guess who you are – party FOUL! No, you need to make it clear who your...
5 people/things with a higher profile than Mike Whan
Mike Whan, the man who elicited a slew of ‘No seriously, who?’ reactions when it was leaked he would be the man, for the women of the LPGA. For all we know this could be the savior the LPGA needs. It’s silly to be overly optimistic or pessimistic about his...
Golf Marketing: Hall of Fame or Shame? – Callaway
We dig golf marketing.
Not because it’s good. Oh no, usually it’s dreadful, unless you have erectile dysfunction issues – then you are likely well informed of a wealth of options available to you.
But sometimes we find something that is interesting for all the right, or even wrong reasons.
This may not be new to you but it was called out to us by a reader and we thought we’d share the ‘Amazing’ video from Callaway golf.
So what do you think? Does it belong in the golf marketing Hall of Fame or Hall of Shame?
There are arguments to be made for both:
Pros – The ‘I’m not even sure I got it all!’ line is chuckle-worthy and it’s refreshing to see a golf related ad that features a couple in bed instead of bathtubs.
Cons – Where’s the love for the ladies? In a perfect world there would be a version of the video featuring a female golfer. Natalie Gulbis gets our casting nod please. Also, a tad stereotypical ‘bigger, longer’ etc. Why stop at the (not so) subtle comparisons between driving length and, um other things and just make the driver into a giant phallus?
Let us know what you think in comments on if it’s Fame or Shame worthy.
So…we’ve been busy
In case you hadn’t noticed (who are we kidding, of course you have!) we’ve been a bit, ahem, absent of late. Oh don’t worry, we’re fine we’re fine. Thanks for asking by the way. In fact I’ve been traveling the road, above is a portrait I took of some of...
Texts from Anthony Kim
There’s been a great deal of chatter over how much Anthony Kim may have partied the night before his Sunday Presidents Cup match against Robert Allenby. While Kim has denied any after-hours activities, we have received, from reliable sources, a number of texts to and from AK that may counter that denial. ...
Um, WTF Scotland?
The home of golf has some ‘splainin to do. The city of Edinburgh is considering giving up some golf courses for use in growing vegetables. Let me repeat that. Less golf, more carrots. Apparently there is an allotment requirement and the golf courses look like prime tomato growing space for...
