And there’s guys criticizing Stina Sternberg of Golf Digest when she told a reader that a male 4 handicap that drives it 300 yards couldn’t beat an LPGA pro at 7,000 yards. Personally, I feel that unless the guy has his home course at Winged Foot or Oakmont, most of those wannabes wouldn’t make it bast the 12th hole. It has more to do with the ego (“I can’t lose to a GIRL”!) rather than skill. I know I couldn’t do it- that’s why they’re professional LPGA-ers, and the rest of us are hackers.

You know those golf magazine challenges that ask whether a supposed single-digit golfer could break 100 under U.S. Open conditions? I think there are very few players who would accomplish the goal. Yeah, a couple of sports stars and pop singers broke 100 — and I was impressed. But I think most regular weekend Joes are screwed. But, it would be fun trying.

Aren’t media days fun ? Interesting feeling playing a course you think you are familiar with – then having it reach up and bite you in the hind quarters.

Bear in mind, we still need to add in real money on the line, crowds & commentators,TV cameras and a field of top players chasing the same thing. But on the flip side, I think you would see shots peel off the more you play courses like this and become familiar with the rough, greens and pin placement. Next up Augusta…

Also, virtually every lady in that LPGA has shot 65 or better in competitive rounds of golf. Not you, Hack, because you are smarter than this, but some guys who may have shot a round in the mid-70′s on that course might look at the lady that shot 83 and say to himself, “I bet I could beat her”. Foolish, foolish man.

A lesson in humility hopefully is a lesson learned…
